Cruella De Vil is at it again, and this time she’s coming for her favorite fashion accessory at the Holland Theatre when they present Disney’s 101 Dalmatians KIDS this weekend. Performances are Friday, July 14, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m.

Based on the classic animated feature, this musical adventure brings back the outrageous, black-and-white clad villain and her bumbling henchmen against a bevy of brave pups.

Straight off his performance in last month’s Bonnie and Clyde, Bellefontaine High School music teacher Brice Henry signed up to direct this summer program for area youngsters between kindergarten and fifth grade. And with 38 children in the cast—and only one week to rehearse—the crew has their hands full.

“It’s been really fun to give a lot of kids their first stage experience and opportunity to learn the ins and outs of performing,” Henry said. “They’re really energetic and do what they’re supposed to do with big faces.”

Henry also plays the owner of the dogs, Roger, and they cast Katie Gallaway as Roger’s wife, Anita. And Linda MacGillivray took on the role of Cruella with a perfect blend of wickedness and gusto.

The main child stars include Caleb Hudson and Aaron Hughes as henchmen Horace and Jasper, respectively. Playing the lead Dalmatians are Leo Reser-Stanford as Pongo and Annie Gallaway as Perdita. The show includes four dog breed narrators: Hannah Thoman (boxer), Scout Andre (corgi), Cardyn Rawlins (poodle) and Ila Millar (Scottie).

For the first time in about a decade the Holland is handling their summer kids program in-house, rather than bringing in an out-of-state company to run it. And they certainly have enough local talent to pull it off.

You can get tickets online at theholland.org or at the box office before the show.
