Indian Lake Middle School fifth-grader Calin Headings might not know what a sprocket is, but he sure can spell the word.
Calin recently won the ILMS Spelling Bee, while sixth-grader Finn Ammons was the runner-up. After 15 rounds of intense competition, Calin correctly spelled the word “sprocket,” which is a gear-like wheel.
In total, 20 other students who were all chosen from language arts classes, participated in the bee. Students were provided spelling words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee List.
Calin and Finn each advance to the Logan County Spelling Bee, set for Jan. 16 at the Holland Theatre.
