Harold I. Dipple, Jr., 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 6:14 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the Landings of Sidney Care Center.

He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on August 29, 1939, the son of the late Harold I. and Mary J. (Hile) Dipple, Sr.

On June 11, 1960, he married Shirley Kay (Downing) Dipple in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bellefontaine, and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2009.  He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Greg Hendershot.

He is survived by three daughters: Julie Dipple-Hendershot and Jane Dipple, both of Bellefontaine, and Jennifer (Tim) Walls of DeGraff, four grandchildren; Jessica Dipple, Olivia Huffman, Lauren Huffman, and Kristen Ewing, and six great grandchildren: Clare Middleton, Logan and Noah Holt, Charlotte Dipple, Cameron Davidson, and Damian Bracewell.

Harold went to St. Patrick school in Bellefontaine until the 8th grade and then went on to graduate from Bellefontaine High School in 1957.  He received his Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1969 and in 1997, he earned his Masters degree from the University of Dayton. He worked for Rockwell International and Siemens Energy & Automation in Bellefontaine. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, was ordained into Permanent Diaconate on June 20, 1987, and taught RCIA at St. Patrick’s for a number of years. He was a trustee for Calvary Cemetery in Bellefontaine and cared for the cemetery for years. He also enjoyed golfing.

Father Kenneth Baker and Father Hank Albietz will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 15, at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 316 E Patterson Ave, Bellefontaine, OH 43311. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery Columbarium, Bellefontaine, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent De Paul or to Calvary Cemetery Trustees, both to the church at 316 E. Patterson Ave., Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
