Ground broken for Raider band tower

“Our music department has been one of many bright, shining stars over the years,” John Scheu, Benjamin Logan superintendent, told a small crowd Friday, June 16, at the band practice field. “When this band tower is completed it will be a talking point all over Logan County.” The groundbreaking ceremony for the new tower also included a few words from Myles Bowers, Benjamin Logan High School band director, who commented, “This has been coming a long time.” In fact, he’s had to make do with some rather precarious structures up until now. “He’s an enthusiastic band director,” Katherine Vickroy, senior drum major, said. As a result, they worried about him. “He’d get excited and it would just shake.” Fortunately, this new structure will provide him with a much safer bird’s-eye view of his marching band at work. They anticipate having it finished by the first week of July. Pictured, from the left are, Paul Gantt, Tyler Barnes, Bella Lowe, Katherine Vickroy, Maggie Bowlby, Bowers, Sadie Staats and Kate Hahn.
