A golf cart operator was arrested shortly before 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, for attempting to flee from an attempted traffic stop in the area of State Route 235, just south of Powhatan Path in Lakeview.

Scot Rhinock, 54, of Lakeview, was operating a 2018 Club Car golf cart northbound on S.R. 235 with three passengers, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report. Deputies on patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop for driving a golf cart on a state route.

When law enforcement activated their emergency lights, the driver, later identified as Rhinock, pulled off of S.R. 235 and attempted to flee through a field. Passengers on the golf cart reportedly began yelling at the driver to get him to stop, and a front-seat passenger even grabbed at the wheel.

The golf cart eventually came to a stop just before entering a tree line. Contact was made with the driver, Rhinock, who told deputies he attempted to flee because his license was suspended. Passengers on the golf cart reported to deputies that Rhinock told them he was going to flee from the traffic stop, but they all told him to stop.

Three open containers of alcohol also were observed on the golf cart. Deputies learned that Rhinock had a non-compliance suspension on his license and multiple failure to reinstates.

He was charged with failure to comply with the order of law enforcement, and was also cited for driving with a license and for improperly operating a golf cart on a state route.

The golf cart was towed from the scene. Rhinock was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
