A former employee of a Quincy-area business has been charged with multiple counts of forgery and theft following an investigation by deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
Nattilee Murphy, 24, of Russells Point, was charged Thursday, Feb. 16, with six counts of forgery and theft, as well as an additional charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after her former employer reported to deputies multiple checks had been taken from My Love of Care Home Health Services, 104 Carlisle St., Quincy.
Gail Dodds, who operates the business, reported that a total of six checks totaling about $1,600 had been taken from the business between Oct. 24 and Dec. 5. The business owner reported that she believed the suspect had entered through an unlocked window and taken the checks.
The checks were each made out to the suspect and had been signed for using a business signature stamp.
Dodds also told deputies she had previously lent her vehicle to the suspect to use, but asked for it back upon learning of the cashed checks. Murphy refused to return the vehicle, deputies report.
With the assistance of Bellefontaine police, deputies were eventually able to make contact with the suspect at an address in Bellefontaine.
Murphy told deputies the vehicle had been purchased for her to use and that she’d been making payments. She also claimed to have been authorized to cash the checks.
She was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
