Tigers race past Raiders in second half

A few big plays early on Friday kept Benjamin Logan in the game through halftime, but the Raiders ultimately could not keep up with a sustained West Liberty-Salem rushing attack.

The Tigers (2-0) rushed for 321 yards as a team en route to a 31-21 home victory over the Raiders (0-2).

WL-S took the lead early in the first quarter on an 18-yard touchdown rush by Josh Wilcoxon, followed by a successful PAT for a 7-0 advantage.

The Raiders responded with a big play of their own, as Jordan Pender sprinted 42 yards for a touchdown. Brandon Heater’s PAT evened the score at 7-7.

Third-quarter rally lifts Lakers

Thirteen unanswered third-quarter points were the difference Friday for Indian Lake in a 19-16 victory on the road at Fairbanks.

The Lakers (2-1) trailed at halftime and for much of the third quarter until finding the end zone twice in the final 5:38 to take the lead for good.

Indian Lake struck first in the opening quarter when quarterback Madden Lillard connected with Brodey Reisinger for a 29-yard touchdown pass, putting the Lakers on the board with just under six minutes remaining in the quarter.

Fairbanks responded quickly, with Raiden Humble powering his way into the end zone on an 8-yard run, followed by a successful extra point by Nate Russell, giving the Panthers a 7-6 lead.

Fairbanks extended its lead in the second quarter, adding a 37-yard field goal by Nate Russell to make the score 10-6 going into halftime.

Indian Lake came out strong in the third quarter. Drake Cosby punched in a 2-yard rushing touchdown midway through the period, reclaiming the lead for the Lakers.

Pirates can’t keep up in 28-13 loss to Jets

Missed opportunities early piled up and proved costly for the Riverside Pirates (1-1) Friday in a 28-13 loss at the the Northeastern Jets (1-1) in a non-league game.

The game was tied after each of the first two quarters, but the Jets shot past the Pirates in the third quarter to pull away for the victory.

The Pirates started strong and moved the ball efficiently on their first possession. However, a turnover on downs stalled a long drive deep into Northeastern territory. On their second possession, the Pirates also drove the ball into the Northeastern red zone, but came up empty on an interception.

Turnovers, miscues cost Chiefs in loss to Bellbrook

Facing a Wing-T offense that prides itself on playing ground and pound football, Bellefontaine’s defense struggled to find  its way Friday night.

Vising Bellbrook grabbed the momentum early and did not let up en route to a 35-14 victory over the host Chieftains in a non-league game.

Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.

Bellefontaine outgained the Eagles 331-305, but the key to the outcome was the turnover column.

The Chiefs were intercepted twice, lost a fumble and turned the ball over on downs at the Bellbrook 6-yard line.

“We didn’t play well enough to win, and that’s on me,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown. “We didn’t execute very well and made uncharacteristic mistakes. We just have to grow and learn from this.”

Bellbrook frustrated the Chiefs by using long drives to grind down the clock. Bellefontaine didn’t get the ball in the second half until just over three minutes left in the third quarter.
