Fentanyl recovered during traffic stop

Dustin Wells, 31, of Lewistown, was charged with possession of drugs related to a traffic stop about 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. 

Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 33 near Lincoln Blvd and conducted a traffic stop on Wells for a marked lanes violation.

Upon making contact with the defendant, a white powder was observed on his clothing and he showed signs of drug use, officers said. K9 Tega was deployed on the vehicle and alerted.

A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle and a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance was located. The substance field tested positive for fentanyl.

Wells was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. 

• Joseph Lowe, 58 of Dayton, was charged with two counts of possession of drugs following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon. 

Officers reportedly conducted the stop about 3:25 p.m. on State Route 235 near State Route 274 on a vehicle driven by Lowe for an equipment violation.

Upon making contact with the defendant, signs of drug use were observed. The driver consented to a search of his vehicle. During the search, officers located Alprazolam, a scheduled drug Lowe did not have a prescription for. 

The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the jail. Once at the jail, corrections officers also located an oxycodone on his person.

Domestic violence charge filed 

Jonathon Beckman, 35, of Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Wednesday. 

Officers responded about 4:15 p.m. to the 7900 block of County Road 54 in reference to a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim and the victim stated that Beckman bit their finger during a dispute of Jonathon accusing the victim of talking to other men.

Shortly after officers’ arrival, the defendant returned to the residence. He admitted to biting the victim’s finger during the dispute. 

Beckman was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
