UPDATES: Quincy shelter location activated; Extreme Cold Shelter locations available until noon Jan. 31

With bitter cold temperatures moving into Logan County, the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning.

Local communities are working together to provide warming shelters for individuals who are unsheltered or unable to safely remain in their homes due to the extreme cold.

These shelters, which will be open Jan. 26-31, are hosted by churches, fire departments, and community volunteers. While hospitality will be provided, accommodations may be very basic. Individuals seeking shelter should bring their own sleeping bags or blankets, chairs or cots, medications, food and drinks, and items for children, if needed.

Pets are not permitted at these locations, as the facilities are not equipped to accommodate animals.
