The Examiner is hosting two contests this month to engage area residents in some spooky season fun — a “Crazy, Creepy, Cute Halloween Costume Contest” and a “Spooky Stories Contest.”

For the costume costume, area residents can submit a photo of their favorite fairytale princesses, superheroes or other creative costumes at www.examiner.org, by clicking on the contest link on the Examiner’s home page.

The costume contest is open to both children and adults.

Participants need to provide their contact information and then upload a .jpg photo.

Contest submissions end on Nov. 1. Then beginning Nov. 2, individuals can weigh in on their favorite costumes in public voting online at www.examiner.org.

The Crazy, Creepy, Cute Halloween Contest winner will be announced Nov. 5, and the winning entry will receive $175 in gift certificates from contest sponsors.

The Examiner reserves the right to reject any entries.

Continuing the spine-chilling season this month, the Examiner also hosts a “Spooky Stories Contest,” which is open to both high school students in grades 9-12 and adults.

The stories should be 800 words or less, and other parameters include: incorporate a spooky theme for the tale, the word “curtains” somewhere in the piece, and include a location in Logan County.

Entries may be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] and include “Spooky Stories Contest” in the subject line. Please include your name, age and your town of residence with your entry.

The spooky stories’ deadline is Thursday, Oct. 24. Winning entries will be printed in the Examiner on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31.
