Ernest L. “Ernie” Sharp, Jr. 68, of East Liberty, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 following a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer, with his family by his side.
Known for his orneriness, Ernie worked for many years alongside his father at S&S Splicing. He was a longtime volunteer with the Perry Township Fire Department and a member of the Bellefontaine Moose Lodge 2563. He loved Rat Rods, especially driving around in his, and always enjoyed a trip to the casino.
Born December 21, 1955 in Bellefontaine, he was the son of the late Ernest and Elsie (Martindale) Sharp, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Lauren and KateLynn Hurley; a brother, David Sharp; a niece, Phebe Mathews and a nephew, Owen Lucio-Patrick.
Ernie is survived by a son, Ernest (Chantel) Sharp, III of Bellefontaine; a daughter, Kristin (Dan) Hurley of Huntsville; grandchildren, KayLee, Tanner and Vance Hurley; his former wife, Kim Sharp of East Liberty; sisters, Barbara Sharp of Marysville, Connie Baughman, Bonnie (John) Brose and April McCreary, all of East Liberty, Susie (Bruce) McCoy of Bellefontaine and Paula (Morgan) Mathys of Raymond; a brother, Ronnie (Christina) Sharp of East Liberty; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends who Ernie considered family.
Services to celebrate Ernie’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel 222 W. Center St. West Mansfield. Friends may call prior to the service on Sunday beginning at noon at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held privately for the family at the East Liberty Cemetery.
