Enhanced security is set to be implemented at the Indian Lake middle and high school buildings after school board members approved Monday, April 17, in a regular meeting the installation of new doors and locks.

Board members entered into agreement with Columbus-based House of Security to install improved locks and doors at a cost not to exceed $147,084.70. The work is necessary for the “security and protection of school property,” and will be paid for in part by an Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant that will fund a total of $100,000 of the project $50,000 for each building.

In personnel matters, the retirement of longtime social studies teacher Doug Reprogle was accepted after 33 years at Indian Lake Schools. Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood called the retirement “bittersweet.”

“I actually student-taught under Mr. Reprogle when I was in college. He was the reason why I wanted to be a teacher and he was definitely the reason why I wanted to come to Indian Lake,” Underwood said. He’s just touched so many students and members of our community and he’s definitely going to be missed. We wish him well in retirement.”

In other personnel matters, the board approved Hannah Kilgore for a one-year, limited teaching contract to teach third grade.

Resignations were accepted from Zachary Dunn, high school science teacher, effective at the end of the 2022-2023 school year; and Robin King, bus driver, effective March 21.

Board members entered into executive session to discuss the investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee, official, licensee, or student, but took no action.

The next regular meeting is May 15.
