Elderly man transported from U.S. 68 crash

Franklin D. Craig, 90, of Bellefontaine, was transported from Bellefontaine Fire and EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries sustained in a crash Thursday afternoon, Sept. 7.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a northbound 2007 Ford Explorer on U.S. Route 68 near County Road 57 about 1:50 p.m. when the vehicle went off the west side of the road, striking a guardrail. The sport utility vehicle then overturned onto its side, completing two rotations before coming to a final rest on the east side of the guardrail.

Damage was heavy to the SUV, which was towed from the scene. The driver was not wearing his seat belt, according to the crash report.U.S. 68 was closed down temporarily due to the accident, deputies said.

• Aime F. Bichmy, 19, of Springfield, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead related to a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon.

The second driver, Shakita M. Williams, 45, of Marysville, reported possible injuries in the crash about 4:20 p.m., but was not transported from the scene. Bichmy did not report any injuries.

Deputies report Bichmy was operating an eastbound 2008 Infiniti car on State Route 347 near U.S. Route 33 when her vehicle struck the rear of Williams’ eastbound 2016 Nissan Versa, which had slowed for traffic. Damage was light to both vehicles and the drivers were wearing their seat belts.
