Edwin Arthur Wisner, 83, of West Liberty, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Logan Acres Care Center. He was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on March 3, 1940, to the late Edwin L. and Mary E. (Solt) Wisner.
On August 24, 1963, he married the former Brenda Wilson in Murray, Kentucky and she survives in West Liberty.
He also leaves behind their children: Edwin G. (Michelle) Wisner, Michael A. (Kristy) Wisner, and David B. (Georganne) Wisner; grandchildren: Brett (Angela), Aaron, Lane, Clay (Katherine) Noah and Solomon; a great-grandchild, Colton; sister, Susan Williams; sister-in-law, Peggy Shoemaker; and many nieces, cousins, and friends.
Edwin was a 1958 graduate of Arlington High School. He then went on to obtain his Bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree from Ohio Northern University. After college, he filled many positions and had many accomplishments including being Litigator at Motorist Mutual Insurance Company and then retired from Republic-Franklin Insurance Company as Vice-President and General Counsel. He was also a 50+ year member of the Columbus and Ohio Bar Associations.
Edwin was a member of Boy Scouts of America and the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He earned the Eagle Scout rank and as an adult leader received recognition from the local, district, and council levels. He was very proud to have 3 sons and 2 grandsons following in his footsteps to Eagle Scout rank.
He was a member of the Lithopolis United Methodist Church for many years, until moving to West Liberty then attended First Christian Church in Urbana and most recently attended Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Bellefontaine. Edwin was an outdoorsman who found much joy in camping, hunting, and fishing.
Ed had a giving heart and was a servant to many. Youth athletic associations, civic associations and nonprofit groups benefited from his pro bono work, especially the Ohio Mental Health Board and The Wagnalls Memorial.
While at his bedside prior to Edwin’s passing, family and friends spent their time in prayer and laughter. It was said by one of his grandson’s that” Granddaddy gets the greatest Christmas gift of everyone this year, he gets to see Jesus!” Everyone was in agreement.
There will be a memorial service for Edwin on Friday, December 29, at 6 p.m. at Christ Our King Church, 1325 Co Rd 9, Bellefontaine, OH 43311. Visitation will be two hours prior from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church.
