Drunk driver reported in grocery store parking lot

Kenneth Jones, 58, of West Mansfield, was charged with impaired driving by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department following a report filed around 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, in the parking lot of Community Markets, 878 E. Sandusky Ave.

Police were dispatched to that location after a bystander reported that Jones was behaving erratically including talking to himself and stumbling about the parking lot.

When officers arrived they met with Jones who was in his vehicle in the parking lot with the key in the ignition. A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was coming from the vehicle, officers report.

The defendant’s speech was slurred, but he admitted to having been drinking since earlier in the morning.

Jones continued to behave erratically and exhibited mood swings. The defendant was unable to complete field sobriety tests and refused a breath test.

He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, no operator’s license and driving under suspension and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
