Driver Gabrielle Murphy, 19, and his passenger, Grace Typpi, 18, both of Lima, were each charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana during a traffic stop Sunday, April 23.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department conducted a traffic stop about 7 p.m. on U.S. Route 33 near Wilgus Avenue for a speed violation of 80 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Upon making contact with Murphy and Typpi, officers observed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Both defendants denied having anything illegal inside of the vehicle. Murphy then stated that there were two loaded firearms inside of the vehicle.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a loaded handgun under the passenger seat and a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat. Officers also located marijuana inside of the vehicle.
The defendants were taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
• Joshua Workman, 29 of Wapakoneta, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia related to a traffic stop about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, April 22.
Officers conducted a traffic stop with his vehicle along U.S. 33 near Township Road 239 for a marked lanes violation.
Upon making contact with Workman, he advised officers that he had marijuana in his vehicle.
During the search of his vehicle, marijuana was located. During a search of Workman’s person, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located.
The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
• Joseph Collins, 40, of Lakeview, was charged with charged with possession of a scheduled II drug and driving under suspension related to a traffic stop about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Collins after learning that he had a suspended driver’s license and operating a vehicle along U.S. 33 near Sunnyside Avenue.
Upon speaking with the driver, signs of drug use were observed. He consented to a search of his vehicle. During the search, officers located oxycodone, a scheduled II controlled substance, that Collins did not have a prescription for.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
