An 18-year-old motorist was killed early Monday morning following a head-on crash that occurred in the area of the 9000 block of south State Route 117 near Duff Quarry, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Dietrich Lyles of Lima was operating a 2010 Mercury Milan southbound on S.R. 117 around 6 a.m. when he lost control, traveled off the right side of the roadway, then overcorrected, crossed left-of-center and traveled into the path of a northbound 2021 GMC Sierra pickup truck pulling a fishing boat operated by Kyle Davis, 40, of Bellefontaine.
Lyles was pronounced dead at the scene. Davis was taken by BMRT squad to Lima Memorial Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Lyles reportedly lost control on a patch of black ice along S.R. 117. Several slide-off crashes were reported all along that stretch of roadway early Monday morning.
