BellefontainePolice Patch-200A routine evening at Wendy’s, 700 S. Main St., took a dangerous turn Wednesday, June 7, when officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department responded to a call regarding a driver with an open container.

The incident, which unfolded in front of the popular fast-food restaurant, resulted in the arrest of Todderick Jenkins, 33, of West Mansfield.

Upon their arrival at the scene, officers immediately detected the strong odor of alcohol from Jenkins. They also noticed several signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. What made the situation even more alarming was the presence of two children in the backseat of Jenkins’ vehicle.

Officers observed an open container of Bud Light in the center console of the car. Concerned for the safety of all involved, the officers promptly requested Jenkins to exit the vehicle. Jenkins failed several intoxication tests conducted by the officers.
Law enforcement placed Jenkins under arrest. Subsequently, he was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he consented to a breath test. The results of the test revealed a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.254, which is over three times the legal limit.
Jenkins has been charged with two counts of OVI, two counts of endangering children, and liquor consumption in a motor vehicle.
As part of the investigation, a comprehensive report will be forwarded to Logan County Children’s Services for further review.
