Date:

Denise V. Runkle, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Denise was born July 7, 1950 in Peoria, IL to the late Russell E. and Mary V. (Marple) Anderson. On March 20, 1971 in Monmouth, IL she married the love of her life Martin D. Runkle, who survives.

Denise liked to go to bingo with her friends, on lunch dates with the “Ladies from Wal-Mart,” and going to auctions, garage sales and shopping with her daughters. Mom preferred to give than to receive. She was all about giving, right up to the very end. Denise loved picking out gifts for everyone and would start holiday shopping very early each year. She was an avid reader enjoying historical fiction and mysteries.  Mom loved her cat Taz who was by her side to the end. Taking care of stray cats was very important to her. She made us promise to continue to make sure they have food & water. Her childhood friendships were very important to her, she kept in touch with them throughout the years. She loved to laugh and crack jokes. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Her greatest joy in life was her grandkids, she loved to spoil them. She always attended her grandkids school functions: band concerts, football and softball games, plays and musicals. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Martin Runkle; children, Leah Darlene (Troy) Hughes and Lee (Holly) Runkle; grandchildren, Jonathan Thornton, Tiana Hughes, Matthew Runkle and Mark Runkle; sister, Mary Lou Anderson; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Leah Darlene Hniton and Cheryl Longbrake; niece, Judy Hinton.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial of ashes will take place in Highland Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Cancer Society, c/o Mary Rutan Foundation, 205 E. Palmer Rd. Bellefontaine, OH 43311 or Universal Home Health and Hospice, 921 Rush Ave. Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
