DeGraff’s Zoey Merritt takes top honors during Lima Jr. Golf circuit

DeGraff resident Zoey Merritt capped an outstanding summer playing in the Lima Junior Golf Association by shooting a 74 on Monday, July 29, to win the Elks Invitational Tournament of Champions at Shawnee Country Club.

Merritt, who will be a senior at Graham High School this fall, won the tournament by 18 strokes. Lexie Honigford was second in the girls 16-18 age group with a 92.

Merritt played in nine events on the LJGA circuit this summer and accrued 88 points to easily win the player of the year honors for her age division. She finished 38 points ahead of the second-place finisher.

Merritt won every tournament except for one. She was second in that
tourney.

Earlier this summer, Merritt won the Women’s Club Championship at Liberty Hills Golf Club, firing a new women’s course record of 65 (five under par).

At Graham, she is coached by her father Rob Merritt, a Riverside High School graduate.
