A jury of Marcus Cobb’s peers found him innocent once before. He didn’t enjoy the same luck this time.

Cobb, 42, of Bellefontaine, was convicted by a Logan County jury on Thursday, Aug. 22, of two counts of assault on a police officer, both felonies of the fourth degree, and two counts of obstructing official business, both felonies of the fifth degree.

The charges stem from a Dec. 30, 2023, incident involving the Bellefontaine Police Department. The confrontation began when officers observed Cobb in the passenger seat of a vehicle on Madriver Street. The SUV, driven by Teaira Stine, 22, of Bellefontaine, was stopped for failing to use a turn signal.

At that time, officers were aware that Cobb had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.

When instructed to exit the vehicle, Cobb refused multiple times. As officers attempted to remove him, he tried to flee, leading to a struggle. Cobb punched one officer twice in the face and bit another. In response, officers deployed a Taser, subduing him after a second discharge.

Cobb was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he admitted to being intoxicated and having used drugs. He was treated for injuries sustained during the incident and later transported to the Logan County Jail.

This case marks the second time he’d been on trial in about 16 years. Previously, in 2008, he was acquitted of assault charges in a different trial.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in this case on October 2
