David F. “Duff” Maier, 83, of Huntsville, passed away Friday evening, June 28, 2024, at his home.
Duff was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, on May 25, 1941, to the late John E. Maier and Eula M. (Wish) Maier Houchin. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Richard P. Maier and John F. Maier; former wife Alice O. Maier, and longtime partner Peggy Dabe.
Duff is survived by his wife, Deborah Derr Maier of Huntsville, whom he’s been with for 18 years. He is also survived by children: David F. (Traci) Maier II of Huntsville, Douglas E. Maier of Hillard, and Devery M. (Frank) Peterson of Statesville, North Carolina; 5 grandchildren: Zach (Kelly) Maier, Claire Maier, Gabi (Travis) Davidson, Charles “Skylar” Maier, and Madeline “Maddie” Maier; a great-granddaughter Raina Davidson; Deb’s children: Mike (Rebecca) Derr of West Liberty, and Shauna (Jim) Norviel of Zanesfield; Deb’s grandchildren: Shelby (Luke) Guthrie, Dakota Derr, Peyton Derr, and Rylan Norviel; a brother Robert E. (Carol) Maier of Huntsville; sisters-in-law: Ann Maier of Bellefontaine, and Rita Maier of Sebring, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Duff worked as a general contractor and was the owner/operator of Maier Concrete for over 30 years. He took pride in his work, and was a lead contractor on many projects, including the Logan County Courthouse and many Honda projects. Duff was a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533.
He enjoyed golfing, doing yardwork, and took pride in his roses. Duff loved traveling – especially the riverboat cruises and Alaskan trips. A very social person, Duff loved to help on family projects and renovations.
Pastor Jeffory Willetts will officiate Duff’s funeral on Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1140 Rush Avenue, Bellefontaine. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
