Crash claims Delaware man

SPRINGFIELD – A Delaware, Ohio, man is dead following a single-vehicle accident in Clark County early Friday, Feb. 7.

Troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded about 3:33 a.m. to State Route 54, north of Interstate 70, on the report of a crash.

First responders report Michael Allen Ellis, 63, was traveling south on S.R. 54 when he crested a hill, lost control his vehicle and veered off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a fence post, a sign and a tree and Ellis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

A dog was found in the vehicle and was apparently unharmed, but was aggressive toward the first responders. The dog was subdued and taken into custody by the Clark County Dog Warden.

Troopers were assisted by Harmony Township EMS, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Dan’s Towing and Recovery.

The accident remains under investigation.
