With a goal of serving the area better, Lutheran Community Services (LCS) has successfully brought in government funding coming to a total of $230,000, thanks to months of hard work. The money will be used for the LCS’s capital campaign toward their new facility on west Sandusky Avenue by Troy Road.
“We approached the state, county and city on how they could help us build a new building to meet the needs of our community,” Kim Collum, LCS executive director, said. “I’m just happy they see and believe in our services.”
Thursday morning, May 11, the Logan County commissioners brought their contribution to the project. Commissioner Joe Antram said they consider this “an important investment in the economic development of this neighborhood,” and hope it will be a catalyst for business activity on the west part of town.
LCS is looking forward to opening the doors this summer. Collum stated the new building will allow them to serve approximately 50 percent more people through their food pantry, thrift store and Our Daily Bread, which serves free hot meals every Monday through Friday.
Previously, LCS has also received $200,000 from the state of Oho and $5,000 from the city of Bellefontaine toward the $1.6 million, 12,000-square-foot facility.
