Downtown cleanup day is April 21
Bellefontaine City Council Tuesday, April 11, in a regular meeting approved a contribution towards building the new Lutheran Community Services facility, and were reminded specifics of the upcoming downtown clean-up day.
An ordinance allocating $5,000 to Lutheran Community Services to be directed toward construction of its new food pantry/thrift store was approved by council on first reading. The new building, which will house both Our Daily Bread and the Lutheran Thrift Store, will be located at the corner of west Sandusky Avenue and Troy Road.
Ground was broken last September on the new facility, which is projected to cost around $1.6 million. The new facility will enable LCS to serve some 50 percent more people than they can currently host through Our Daily Bread, currently located at 223 Oakland Square.
The downtown Bellefontaine spring cleaning is set for 10 a.m., Friday, April 21, Mayor Ben Stahler said. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Street Marketplace.
In other council action, an ordinance authorizing the service-safety director to seek bids and enter into contract with a contractor for this year’s street paving and resurfacing program was approved on first reading.
Members also removed an agenda item relating to an ordinance authorizing the Bellefontaine Municipal Court to hire a part-time magistrate.
Interim Police Chief Chris Marlow told council the department’s newest officer, Savarrah Crabtree, is set to be sworn-in and begin her 12-week training.
The next regular city council meeting is April 25.
