Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to a residence about 4:55 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the 400 block of West Sandusky Avenue on a report of bones being discovered at the property.
The home’s owner, who has lived in the 100-plus-year-old residence about four years, told police she had been digging a new section for her garden in the backyard when she uncovered several small petrified bones. She further told police she researched one of the bones and believes it is an unspecified human bone.
Officers photographed and placed into evidence a small leg bone, a small rib bone, vertebra and several smaller broken pieces of bone.
The bones will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing.
Police continue their investigation.
