Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a four-vehicle crash Saturday evening, Aug. 12, along south U.S. Route 68 that claimed the life of a motorcyclist from Cincinnati.

Tristan Long, 35, was pronounced dead after the crash at Township Road 199 at 7:15 p.m. His body was transported by Jennings Farley Funeral Home to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, deputies report.

Another motorist in the crash, Avery H. Davis, 20, of West Liberty, was transported by private vehicle to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

Deputies said Long was operating a northbound 1986 Honda motorcycle and attempted to pass a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Charles W. Thurman, 86, of Bellefontaine.

While passing the pickup, the motorcycle reportedly struck the left rear taillight of the pickup and then entered the southbound lane of U.S. Route 68.

Long continued northbound and struck a southbound 1999 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Ellis M. Bibbs, 43, of Russells Point, in a head-on collision.

Long’s motorcycle and the Bibbs vehicle came to a rest upon impact, and Long was thrown from the motorcycle.

Davis was operating a southbound 1978 Honda motorcycle that struck the rear of the Thurman pickup after sliding into the Bibbs vehicle.

Thurman and Bibbs did not report any injuries and they were wearing their seat belts, according to the crash report. Deputies said Long was not wearing a helmet, and Davis was wearing a helmet.

Damage was heavy to both motorcycles and the Bibbs pickup, and moderate to the Thurman vehicle.

This is the fourth fatal crash in Logan County this year.
