Christmas tree project memorializes loved ones

The holiday season can be very difficult for individuals who have lost a loved one. As a way to honor and remember those who have passed away, the Riverside Interact Club decided this year to host the Remembrance Tree Project.

The project was funded by the Interact Club and a Mary Rutan Foundation grant written by High School Principal Kelly Kauffman and School Counselor/Interact Adviser Debbie Gonterman.

Members of the Riverside Interact Club set up and decorated each tree.
All students and staff were invited to create Christmas ornaments in memory of their loved ones.

The Interact Club guided students and staff in making their ornaments. After being displayed at school, the ornaments will be taken home. There are a total of five trees split between high school, junior high, elementary and staff.

Members of this year’s Interact Club who assisted with the Remembrance Tree Project included Hadlie Asbury, Miah Carman, Riley Dillon, Taylor Dillon, Peyton Duckro, Kaylee Fulkerson, Lei Hurley, Kamdyn Ireland, Kara Klingler, Gillian Knight, Whitney Leatherman, Kailyn Lemly, Keira Manahan, Evie McGill, Julia Meade, Avery Perk, Morgan Shockey, Emma Strayer, Chelsea Trout and Lily Weese.
