Bellefontaine’s girls and boys swim teams wrapped up their season Friday with strong performances at the district meet at Miami University.
The girls team placed 23rd overall and scored nine points, as five swimmers competed across six events.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Olivia Ullom, Elaina Ullom, Joslyn Robinson and Morgan Henry placed 18th. The 400 freestyle relay team of Olivia Ullom, Kate Myers, Robinson and Henry also finished 18th.
Henry finished ninth in the 100 freestyle, and 17th in the 100 backstroke.
Robinson placed 30th in the 200 individual medley. Olivia Ullom swam the 100 breaststroke.
“Making it to the District meet is always a big goal for our swimmers,” coach Sharon Lewis said. “I’m proud of these athletes for never letting up and finishing in such strong fashion.”
The Chieftain boys finished 39th overall at the district meet, as six swimmers competed in nine events.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Aidan Mifsud, Nolan Core, Cooper Harman and Blake McDonald finished 18th. The 200 medley relay team of John Fulmer, Mifsud, Elias Abrergo and Core finished 21st. In the 200 freestyle relay, Abrego, Fulmer, Core and McDonald placed 23rd.
Abrego finished 19th in the 100 butterfly and 27th in the 50 freestyle. Harman finished 32nd in the 500 freestyle. McDonald finished 20th in the 100 backstroke and 21st in the 100 freestyle. Mifsud placed 30th in the 200 individual medley.
“It has been a fun season for this team. While not every race at Districts was a best time they were all strong times and this group represented our team so well,” Lewis said. “We are proud of each of these athletes for their constant effort.
Ben Logan swimmers wrap up season with district competition
Benjamin Logan swimmers wrapped up their season Friday at the district meet at Miami University. The boys qualified for districts in three individual events and were the second alternate in the 200 freestyle relay.
The girls qualified for districts in the 200 freestyle relay.
For the boys, Luke McKenrick placed 19th in the 200 freestyle, and finished 27th in the 100 freestyle.
Robert Leezer finished 23rd in the 100 breaststroke.
For the girls, the 200 medley relay team of Annika Chappell, Winnie Bodin, Allison Moore and Liberty Hayes finished 20th.
“I’ve truly been blessed to coach a great group of kids this year. This senior class led this team and laid groundwork for many years to come. They really helped me to find my voice as a coach and I am grateful,” coach Mitch Sweeney said. “The fact that all of these kids got up for 6 a.m. practice shows their dedication and I can’t wait till next year to coach those that are returning and for those that aren’t, I can’t wait to see what they will accomplish beyond high school.”
