Bellefontaine’s boys and girls swim teams each recorded top-three finishes Friday at the Central Buckeye Conference championships at Trotwood-Madison High School.
The Chieftain boys won the event with 226.5 points, and the girls finished third overall with a total of 202 points.
Blake McDonald led the way for the Chiefs, recording 25.5 points that included second-place finishes in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. He was followed closely by Elias Abrego and John Fulmer who each logged 24 points.
Abrego finished second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Fulmer earned third-place finishes in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Aidan Mifsud scored 23 points for the Chieftain boys, finishing second in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 100 freestyle.
Cooper Harman and Nolan Core recorded 16 points and 15 points, respectively. Harman placed sixth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 500 freestyle. Core placed fifth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 500 freestyle.
Ryan Alexander and Cody Hudson each scored nine points. Alexander finished eighth in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 500 freestyle, while Hudson finished eighth in the 200 individual medley and ninth in the 100 breaststroke.
Beckham Harman added seven points with a seventh-place finish in the 200 individual medley.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Mifsud, Harman, Alexander and McDonald finished second.
The relay team of Abrego, Fulmer, Core and McDonald finished third in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 medley relay, Fulmer, Mifsud, Abrego and Core finished in third place.
“Our boys are a true team,” coach Sharon Lewis said. “They did not have a single first-place finish, but grabbed nine medal finishes from nine scoring athletes with six boys scoring in double digits.
“I am extremely proud of these boys. Every day they show up, work hard and have fun. It was an amazing night from start to finish and they earned it.”
Leading the way for the Lady Chieftains was Morgan Henry with 28 points, including third-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and, a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly.
Olivia Ullom recorded 24 points, with third-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Joslyn Robinson scored 22 points with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley and a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Ashton Carey logged 18 points with sixth-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Elaina Ullom had 14 points, finishing sixth in the 100 freestyle and eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
Kate Myers scored 10 points with a fifth-place finish in the 200 individual medley.
Kaeleigh Flora scored six points and Zoey Rister had five points. Flora placed eighth in the 200 individual medley and 12th in the 100 butterfly. Rister finished ninth in the 200 freestyle and 12 in the 500 freestyle.
Maddie Ullom and Emma Merrin rounded at the scoring for the Lady Chieftains with four points and one points, respectively. Ullom finished ninth in the 100 backstroke, and Merrin finished 12th in the 200 freestyle.
The relay team of Olivia Ullom, Elaina Ullom, Robinson and Henry finished second in the 200 freestyle. In the 400 freestyle relay, the quartet of Olivia Ullom, Myers, Robinson and Henry finished third.
In the 200 medley, the relay team of Myers, Elaina Ullom, Flora and Carey placed fifth.
“Our girls really showed up ready to fight,” Lewis said. “(They) have so much to be proud of an earned every bit of their success through all the work they have put in this season.”
The boys and girls Chieftain swim teams are back in action Feb. 5 at the Irish Invitational.
Benjamin Logan boys finish third, girls seventh at CBC Championship
Ben Logan’s boys swim team finished with 164.5 points and swam to a third-place finish Friday at the conference championship, while the girls team finished in seventh with 79 points.
Luke McKenrick led the way for the Raider boys with 24.5 points that included a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle and a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle. He was followed closely by Robert Leezer, who scored 22 points and set a new school record in the process.
Leezer placed fifth in the 50 freestyle, and third in the 100 breaststroke. His finish in the 100 breaststroke broke the school record previously set by his brother Max Leezer.
Liam Sweeney tallied 20 points, including fifth-place finishes in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
Carter Daniels had 16 points with a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley and a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Utah Coleman and Jerrik Stephens each recorded seven points. Coleman placed 10th in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the 100 backstroke, while Stephens placed seventh in the 100 butterfly.
Landon Braddock recorded six points, finishing 10th in both the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Thee 400 freestyle relay team of Sweeney, Stephens, Braddock and McKenrick placed fourth.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the quartet of Coleman, Braddock, Stephens and Leezer finished fifth. In the 200 medley relay, McKenrick, Leezer Sweeney and Coleman finished fifth.
Allison Moore led the Raiders girls in scoring with 12 points that included an eighth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and a seventh-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Annika Chappell tallied nine points with a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley. Winnie Bodin had seven points with a seventh-place finish in the 200 individual medley.
Liberty Hays scored one points, finishing 12th in the 50 freestyle.
The relay team of Chappell, Brooklyn Horner, Hays and Bodin finished fourth in the 200 freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay team of Kelley Forsythe, Bodin, Allison Moore and Hays finished seventh. The 400 freestyle relay team of Chappell, Forsythe, Horner and Moore.
“I am really happy about how we performed at this meet,” coach Mitch Sweeney said.
“Two-thirds of our swimmers who swam tonight set personal records. The kids were dialed in and swam well.”
Indian Lake girls finish fifth, boys sixth at CBC meet
Indian Lake’s girls swim team finished fifth, and the boys claimed sixth Friday at the CBC championship meet at Trotwood-Madison.
The girls recorded 96 points overall, and were led by a third-place finish out of the 200 medley relay team Grace Pequignot, Paige Mefford, Lily Jenkins and Annie Braig.
Jenkins and Braig finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle, respectively.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Jenkins, Mefford, Pequignot and Braig placed fourth.
Braig and Pequignot each placed seventh in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, respectively. Ashlyn Biederman and Mefford recorded eighth-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
Reagan Rash and KaiLea Miller each recorded 11th-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, respectively.
The Laker boys tallied 119 points overall, and were led by Brant Parsell, who finished in second-place in the 50 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay team of Chris Gilligan, Grant McPherson, Caleb Altstaetter and Parsell finished third.
Earning a fourth-place finish was the 200 medley relay team of Gilligan, Mason Beres, Parsell and Grant McPherson.
Gilligan finished fifth in the 100 backstroke and ninth in the 100 freestyle. Beres finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
McPherson finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and 11th in the 50 freestyle. The quartet of Beres, Vincent Wilson, Gavin Spring and Altstaetter finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay.
Altstaetter earned 10th-placed finishes in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
Titus Kelly placed 11th in the 100 backstroke.
