Chase ends in Ridgeway building crash

RIDGEWAY — A high-speed chase early Sunday morning, Oct. 20 ended up with a vehicle crashing into the Ridgeway Village Council building, 103 S. Main St.

The suspect, identified as Aaron McPherson, 46, of New Carlisle, was apprehended at the scene, only suffering minor cuts and bruises.

According to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a trooper tried to stop McPherson for speeding. The subject was traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone on Ohio 235, about 12:54 a.m. McPherson fled from the traffic stop in his vehicle and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office joined in the pursuit.

The vehicle fled through rural routes before reaching the Village of Ridgeway.

McPherson drove over the railroad tracks at the edge of Ridgeway at a high speed, lost control of his vehicle and struck the council building. The Ridgemont Public Library also suffered some damage. No serious injuries were reported.

McPherson was accompanied by a dog that was taken by the Hardin County Dog Warden.

McPherson was charged with fleeing and eluding, operating a vehicle impaired, failure to control, speeding and failure to wear his seat belt.

Assisting the Ohio Sate Highway Patrol were the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, BKP Ambulance Service, EMS, Minnich Towing, the Hardin County Dog Warden and the Village of Ridgeway.
