The laughter may never end when Calvary Christian School presents their spring play Headin’ for a Weddin’! Join the adventure of “city slicker” Homer Hollowbone as he heads to the hills in search of a wife.

Homer’s love life, and the characters who surround him, takes the stage this weekend at Union Station, 613 Hamilton St., Bellefontaine, at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

CCS middle school teacher Tammy Brewer is directing the show with assistance from Becky Surls. Brewer has had plenty of experience in play production — this is her 17th turn as director, including three years at CCS, and she’s excited to see that number grow even more.

According to Brewer, the crazy storyline isn’t easy to sum up, so “you’ll just have to come and experience it yourself. And be prepared to laugh.”

Fortunately, she has a hard-working cast that has been rehearsing for three months. She appreciates their commitment and dedication to learning their parts.

The production itself is made up mostly of females. This was purposeful because in previous years, CCS had a limited number of boys audition. With that in mind, Brewer chose a script with fewer roles for guys, only to have more than usual try out — more than she had parts to fill. Still, she ended up with a fun cast who’s ready to perform on opening night.

Junior Abigail Hermiller has participated in the school’s productions for three years.

“The whole play is just so funny,” she said, “and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

Jacob Palmer, who takes the stage as Homer, stated, “My favorite part has been growing as an actor and hanging out with the cast and forming those friendships throughout the play.”

“The more experience my friends and I got the more confident we were to use improv in some of our lines,” said Zeke Reynolds, who’s enjoying his third CCS production. “These tiny little things make it even more memorable and serve as little inside jokes.”

“I’ve loved working and being a part of the cast, and as I graduate this spring, I’ll always remember all the things that happened during this production,” said Helena Burns, who plays Sarah Jo.

Instead of tickets, the school asks attendees to give donations at the door.

The cast list includes: The Hollowbones: Paw – Gabe Salmonowicz; Maw – Lili Printz; Homer – Jake Palmer; Sarah Jo – Helena Burns; Gracie May – Natalie Wish; Fannie Jane – Allena Miller; Pepper – Daniel Young; Sis – Laileigh Beatty; Grandpappy – Zeke Reynolds; Sound- Joe Kyner; The Blairhouses: Widder – Nora Thornton; Bertha – Kari Gantz; Slim – Jeremiah Hermiller; The Guests: Melissa Dugan – Abigail Hermiller; Hortense Todd – Brianna Thomsen; and Isabel Todd – Aly Reames.
