Carroll E. Meadows, 87, of West Liberty, passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 5, 1937, to the late Henry Carroll Meadows and Arnetta Hall.

Along with his parents, Carroll was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Sherry D. Meadows; step daughter, Erin Lynn Smith; and brother, Rick Meadows.

He is survived by his daughters, Anne McGrail, Kellen Meadows, and Tricia (Dwayne) McKenzie; step-son, Eric (Allison) Smith; 1st wife, Lee Ellen Conley; grandchildren, Nick (Tabitha), Erin, Connor, Braden, and Kate; great grandson, Grayson McGrail; siblings, Linda Meadows Hissong, and Dan Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

Carroll graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1955. He received his bachelor’s degree from Otterbein University and then earned his master’s degree in education administration from Ohio University. Carroll began his educational career as a teacher at Olentangy followed by Westerville City Schools. He transitioned to education administration as elementary and middle school principal in Delaware City Schools. Carroll accepted his first superintendent position at College Corner local school district and then transitioned to Benjamin Logan Schools in 1977. His career path led him to Champaign County where he served as county superintendent. After retiring, Carroll assumed several interim school administrator positions in Logan and Champaign counties as well as providing field work supervision for student teachers at Urbana University. He was active in the Ohio Superintendents Association and continued his relationships with former colleagues. In addition to his educational career, he also held several positions with the Union Banking Company in West Mansfield, Ohio.

Carroll was an avid sports fan and loved to attend local high school sporting events as well as college football and basketball games. He held a standing tee time at Blackhawk Golf Course in Galena, Ohio for over 40 plus years. Carroll’s passion for sports was inherited by his children and grandchildren. Lovingly known as Papa C, he was a vocal fan at his grandchildren’s sporting events as well as Ohio State football games. He also enjoyed traveling; having traveled to Ireland, Scotland, and Europe. One fond memory of his was playing the golf course at Carnoustie. He and his late wife also enjoyed the warmth of Fountain Hills, AZ for several years during the winter season. Carroll was loved by many and will be forever missed.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 321 North Main Street, Bellefontaine. A funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Urbana United Methodist Church, 328 North Main Street, Urbana. On Saturday, May 18, 2024, a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 12502 Presar Road, Wapakoneta.**
