The Logan County Commissioners passed Resolution No. 205-23 Oct. 19 pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code relating to an engine brake restriction on County Road 146.

The resolution authorizes the Logan County Engineer to place ‘No Engine Braking’ signage on C.R. 146 in accordance with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Logan County Engineer Scott Coleman explained that his office received a request from a landowner to investigate excessively loud engine braking from trucks traveling on C.R. 146 from the intersection of County Road 153 to a point approximately 3,450 feet south of the intersection.

“In response to this request, our road supervisor visited the section and personally noticed excessively loud engine braking from trucks,” Coleman said in a letter to the county commissioners.

“The roadway characteristics should not be a significant cause of overheating of mechanical braking systems, as this roadway section includes mild, short downhill grades and a 25 mph curve.”

Additionally, there are residential homes in the area and residents have complained about the loud noise of the engine brakes being utilized as well, Coleman noted.

The location of one sign will be approximately 60 feet south of the intersection of County Road 153, with the sign on the west side of the road and facing oncoming traffic.

A second sign will be located a point approximately 3,510 feet south of said intersection on the east side of the road and facing oncoming traffic.

It’s estimated this regulatory signage will be installed by Nov. 7.
