Byron Gager Cushman, 74, formerly of Zanesfield, and currently of Heath, Ohio, passed away Monday morning, March 20, 2023, at The Laurels of Heath.
Byron was born in Bellefontaine on July 22, 1948, to the late Warren S. and Mildred Lois “Millie” (Engle) Cushman.
Byron is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara A. and David A. Stout of Newark, and L. Patricia and Bruce Simmons of Asheboro, North Carolina; 5 nieces and nephews: Aimee (Bryan) Bell, Tim (Jamie) Stout, Susan (Brad) Riley, Jennifer (Jonathan) Rodriguez, and Frank Simmons; and 14 great- nieces and great-nephews.
A 1968 graduate of Logan Hills High School, Byron worked for 48 years as the night watchman and general maintenance at the Zanesfield Rod & Gun Club. He had also volunteered on the Zanesfield Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Byron loved fishing, reading, playing board games, coloring books, story-telling and telling jokes. He was a member of the Zanesfield Community Chapel. Byron’s loving family will miss his daily cell phone calls, his support, encouragement, and love for all of them. They have been so blessed to have had him in their family. His winsome personality, his big heart, and his upbeat sense of humor were appreciated by everyone inside and outside of the family.
Pastor Keith Matthews will officiate Byron’s memorial service on Friday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at the Zanesfield Community Chapel, where the visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Zanesfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zanesfield Community Chapel, 4754 Co. Rd. 10, Zanesfield, OH 43360.
