A domestic disturbance at a residence in DeGraff resulted in the arrests of Michael Skiver, 36, and Jessica Vanhorn, 35, Monday, Jan. 13, deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence in the 900 block of Cretcher Street around 7:30 p.m. following reports of an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.

Upon arrival, deputies found Skiver outside near the garage. He reported an argument inside the home with Vanhorn, which began when her aunt visited the residence. Skiver stated he became upset, threw cheese at the refrigerator and was pushed by Van Horn. He admitted to grabbing her and moving her out of the way during the confrontation.

Vanhorn alleged that Skiver had thrown cheese and called her derogatory names. She acknowledged pushing him but claimed he responded by grabbing and slamming her into the refrigerator.

An additional witness, Vanhorn’s aunt, Patricia Myers, confirmed Skiver’s actions of throwing cheese and yelling.

Deputies reviewed video evidence provided by Skiver, which showed Vanhorn shoving him and both parties exchanging heated remarks. Efforts were made to separate the two individuals, but Skiver refused to leave, because he said he didn’t have anywhere else to go.

After determining that both parties were equal aggressors in the incident, deputies arrested Skiver and Vanhorn. They were transported to the Logan County Jail and charged with domestic violence.

This is not the first time law enforcement has been called to the residence, as dispatch records indicate prior incidents at the address.
