The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities welcomed a new board member during their meeting Monday, Oct. 7.

Kelly Paxton was administered the oath of office by Becky Robison. Paxton replaces Lindsay Krieger.

Superintendent Krista Oldiges presented updated policies and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center for the Early Childhood Education Grant, all of which were approved by the board.

The board also approved the 2025 budget, which will be presented to the commissioners at the end of October for approval.

A report from the state was reviewed on waiver costs. Logan County was the sixth lowest county in the state for Individual Options Waiver costs and the 13th lowest for Level One Waiver costs all while providing the services needed in the county.

Oldiges shared that board will be having a Sensory-Friendly Movie at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, to help celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The first 150 people will get in free and will receive a free beverage and popcorn.

The superintendent is also working with a parent for a grant to install a communication board near the Fox Island playground.

Prior to the start of the meeting, Business Director Jennifer Frail reviewed the cost report process and the proposed 2025 budget as part of the board member’s annual training.

The cost report captures, analyzes and publicizes the expenditures and income of each county board of developmental disabilities annually, which also complies with the federal reporting requirements for Medicaid-funded services.

Frail reviewed the financials for August 2024 noting that property taxes were received.

SSA Director Jason Moyer noted that during DSP Appreciation Week, Direct Support Professionals received some of Hannah’s Honey, locally sourced from a business of a person who receives services, as well as an ID badge to help them get into events without being charged while they are providing services.

Moyer has applied for a grant from United Way of Logan County to help support people served by the board.

The Early Intervention Department hosts a Developmental Screening Oct. 17 from 2 to 6 p.m. for children birth through Pre-K at the Discovery Center. It is a free screening for children living in Logan County who are not currently enrolled in EI or on an IEP. Families can call (937) 292-3065 to sign up their child for the screening.

Board meetings are typically conducted the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at 1973 W. State Route 47, Bellefontaine. The next meeting is 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7.
