The Ohio Academy of Science awarded achievement ratings of “superior” to four Benjamin Logan High School students in recognition of their individual science projects presented at the District Science Day Saturday, March 25, at Ohio Northern University.
As a result of their achievements, students Winnie Bodin, Kelley Forsythe, Tristan Sheets and Dylan Vance have qualified for the State Science Day, slated for May 13, at The Ohio State University.
Benjamin Logan Elementary teacher Bruce Smith also served as a judge at the district contest.
Winnie’s project is titled, “Biological and Chemical Assessment of Various Locations on the Mad River Over Five Years.” She received awards from the Ohio Soybean Council and the Soroptimist International Club.
Kelley won a full scholarship to ONU’s Pathways STEM Camp and received awards for Best Chemistry project and honors from the Ohio Soybean Council. Her project is titled, “The Effects of Conservation Methods on the Distribution of Nutrients in the Soil Profile.”
Tristan received the Governor’s Award for Advanced or Alternative Energy. His project is titled, “Electrolysis Efficiency.”
Dylan’s project is titled, “Are there microplastic concentrations within Indian Lake, Logan County?” He earned a 529 College Advantage Savings Award.
