Benjamin Logan Elementary School announces that students, families, and staff raised $13,500 during this year’s Kids Heart Challenge, supporting the life-saving work of the American Heart Association.
Led by Tiann Harner, elementary physical education teacher, the campaign taught students how the heart works and how to keep it healthy through hands-on activities and engaging lessons.
Students practiced raising and lowering their heart rates, learned to count their pulse, and explored fascinating heart facts from around the world—including hearts so small they can only be seen with a microscope and others large enough to swim inside.
Pupils even held models of real hearts and heard stories about how the American Heart Association has helped people in their own school and community.
A total of 111 students registered, 25 students completed Finn’s Mission, and 32 families learned Hands-Only CPR during the challenge.
Eighteen students raised $250 or more, earning special recognition: Addie Pickering, Eden Caudill, Kinleigh McCreary, Joline Parsons, Isabelle Sadler, Aeron Bray, Jenabelle Downing, Kason Shirk, Emmett Fry, Karter Shirk, Vallie Ruble, Juniper Holycross, Ivan Holycross, James Blakey, Jase Phillips, Evelyn Roe, Keaton Hays, and Miles Brunson.
The school’s top fundraiser was Eden Caudill, who raised a remarkable $1,596.19.
“Benjamin Logan Elementary is grateful for the incredible support from the community and proud of the students who embraced heart-healthy habits while giving back in a meaningful way,” school officials said.
“The funds raised will support education, research, and resources to help save lives and improve heart health for all.”
