Betty “Shorty” Bockoven, 94, of Belle Center, OH died on November 3, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, OH.
Betty was born on June 29, 1929, in Dayton, OH, a daughter of the late Roy and Georgina Horn.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Tom, brother, Roy and her close and longtime companion, Betty Palmer.
Shorty is survived by her Indian Lake family, Mike Dix, Geoff Farmer, Ann Sidell, and Mary Beck, niece, Martha (John) Saurine, cousin, Donna (Bob) Dykes, her dog, Alfie and her many caring friends and neighbors.
Shorty loved people and would talk to everyone. She loved watching and feeding the birds and any other critters who made their way to her door. Dogs were always a part of her life. Her favorite pastime was playing games and cards, especially her version of the hand and foot card game. She was never afraid to express her feelings and would sometimes use her own unique language. If a project needed to be completed or someone needed help, she would be there, tools in hand.
Shorty was one of a kind and led a full life. We loved her and she will be missed.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Sunday, November 19, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview OH, from 2 to 3 pm. Father Mike Nartker S.M. will officiate a service at 3 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Shorty’s memory may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
