Ben Logan will tackle a major renovation this summer

With the work well underway, the Benjamin Logan School District Board and other staff members stepped onto the stripped track and football field to celebrate breaking ground on a “much needed” project. Thanks to $2.1 million loan, the district will have a new facility to welcome fans to events this fall.

It’s a big undertaking for the new district activities director, Beau Harmon, but he’s ready to see it done. Harmon was hired in June 2022.

“After they started tearing up the existing drainage and electrical we noticed how bad the field was,” said Harmon, who graduated from BLHS in 2013. “Water had completely warped and raised the track.”

As a result, the middle of the field had a crown that was the highest LeVan’s Excavating had ever seen. It was so bad, they were surprised they didn’t have issues sooner.

Besides football, the new sports center will benefit men’s and women’s soccer and the schools’ track teams from elementary through high school.

“Talks about improving the track over the last few years is finally reaching fruition,” Superintendent John Scheu stated. “I feel this will be a benefit to Benjamin Logan and the larger community.”

The deadline to have the project finished is Aug. 24 so it’s ready to go in time for the first fall football game on Aug. 25. But, Harmon said, they’re hoping it will be done much sooner.
