The Benjamin Logan swim team took part in the Southwest Classic meet on Jan. 18-19.
Annika Chappell broke the school record for the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:33.43. The record had belonged to Brianna Heath in 2019.
Carter Daniels set a school record in the 200 breaststroke (2:44.53), breaking one set in 2023 by Robert Leezer, to take fifth place. Liam Sweeney swam the 200 butterfly in 2:37.45, good for third place, and broke his own record.
Lottie Bodin placed fourth in the 200 butterfly, Fiona Sweeney finished eighth in the 50 freestyle, Winnie Bodin was ninth in the 100 butterfly, and Chappell finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke, sixth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 200 individual medley.
Chappell, Winnie and Lottie Bodin and Sweeney combined in three relays events. They were seventh in the 200 and 400 medleys and eighth in the 200 freestyle. In the 400 free relay, Sweeney, Chappell, Winnie Bodin and Annika Schmidt were eighth.
For the boys, individual placers were Sweeney with fifth in the 100 butterfly, eighth in the 200 breaststroke and ninth in the 200 backstroke; Daniels with fifth in the 200 breaststroke and seventh in the 100 breaststroke; Wyatt Gordon was 10th in the 200 breaststroke; and Joe Meeker placed eighth in the 200 IM.
Four relays teams all earned fifth place.
It was Landon Braddock, Daniels, Sweeney and Jerrik Stephens in the 400 medley, 200 freestyle and 200 medley events.
In the 400 freestyle, it was Sweeney, Utah Coleman, Stephens and Braddock.
The 200 medley relay team of Dylan Vance, Coleman, Meeker, and Gordon finished 10th.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lady Tigers top Mechanicsburg
West Liberty-Salem defeated Mechanicsburg 39-35 in Ohio Heritage Conference action Thursday.
WL-S jumped out to a 20-4 lead after one, then saw Mechanicsburg close it to 23-18 by halftime. The second half was even, allowing the Tigers to get the win.
Ava Astorino had 12 points, with 10 each by Addie Wallen and Ava Poppe.
The Tigers JV won 29-26, with Grace Jones having nine points.
West Liberty-Salem (8-3, 11-4) travels to Fairbanks for a game this evening. JV play begins at 6 p.m.

Riverside falls to Lehman
Riverside lost 27-24 to Lehman Catholic in Three Rivers Conference play on Thursday.
The Lady Cavaliers led 19-8 at the half.
Avery Perk had 11 points and Miah Carman scored seven for Riverside.
Riverside (1-10 TRC, 4-12) plays at Hardin Northern today.

BOWLING
Chieftains split with Alder
Bellefontaine faced Jonathan Alder in Central Buckeye Conference bowling Thursday.
The Chieftains girls improved to 13-1 on the year with a win. They had 2,428 pins to 2,404 for the Pioneers.
Gracie Hood had the high series of 435 (200-235), followed by Chloe Heminger with 385 (210-175); Nevaeh LaFollette at 336 (201-135); Haylee Yelton at 309 (128-181). Isabelle Gunnett had a 161 game and Avery Mullins rolled a 127 game.
They had 1,753 in regular games and 675 pins in the Baker games.
The JV team won 1,610 to 1,356. High games included Rylee Anderson 180, Shelby Hoffman 153, and Kinzie Bernard 130.
Jonathan Alder won the boys’ match, 2,876 to 2,754.
Alex Moon led the Chieftains with a 434 series (234-200), with David Allen at 416 (225-191). Rounding things out were Colton Wisner with 388 (189-199); Rory Pierce with 382 (179-203) and Alex Williams with 333 (163-170).
The split was 2,754 in regular games and 801 in the Baker round.
The junior varsity got a win by a count of 1,852 to 1,844.
Eli Stone had a 425 series (200-225). Other game scores were Brandon Pinkerton 192 and Tim Phillips 182.
The boys are 4-11 on the season.

Ben Logan splits against NW
Benjamin Logan faced Northwestern on the road Thursday, getting a split decision in the varsity matches.
Northwestern won the boys contest 2,921 to 2,730.
Jarrett Buckenroth led Ben Logan with a 444 (225-219); followed by Dylan Stewart with 432 (256-176) Nate Davis with 420 (205-215); Landon Stoodt with 382 (176-206) and Caleb Knight with 312 (171-141).
The boys junior varsity won 2,300 to 2,169. Scores for the Raiders were Conner Chambers 369 (180-189); Wyatt LeVan 354 (193-161); Colton Klopfenstein 349 (171-178); Jace Lyons 348 (179-169) and Pierce Jenkins 234 (108-126).
The Lady Raiders won with 2,215 pins to 2,174 for Northwestern.
Maddy Hamm led with a 373 series (206-167), Lorali Klopfenstein had a 343 (180-163); Jacey Kohler had a 342 (162-180) and Reigan Thomas rolled a 170 game.
The junior varsity girls won 1,370 to 1,322.
Kaydon Wilber had a 245 series (134-111); Kinzy Legge had a 241 (113-128); Kailey McCollough had a 237 (139-98) and Natalie Chapman contributed a 126 game.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Spartans defeat Castine
Calvary Christian got a 61-50 win over Castine Christian Academy of Arcanum on Thursday.
Daniel Young led Calvary with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. He also had five steals.
Zeeke Wylie had 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Christian Rogan had eight points and six assists. Evan Schmidt scored seven, had seven rebounds and three steals. Philip Davie got six points and three steals. John Gaertner and Cale Buchenroth also chipped in points.
