Bellefontaine’s baseball team advanced in Division II sectional tournament play Thursday with a 5-2 victory over visiting Bishop Fenwick at Blue Jacket Park.

The seventh-seeded Chiefs are now 14-10 and they advance to face top-seeded Kenton Ridge (20-5) on Tuesday in the district semifinal round.

Fenwick, which was the 14th seed for the sectional, ends the season at 8-16.

The Falcons struck first Thursday, scoring a run in the top of the second inning.
Bellefontaine answered with a run in the bottom half of the second to tie the score at 1-1.

Bellefontaine took a 2-1 lead in the third inning and then the Chiefs opened up some breathing room with three runs in the fifth for a 5-1 advantage.

Fenwick added a run in the top of the seventh, but the Chiefs were able to limit the damage from there to wrap up the win.

Riley Neer worked five innings on the mound to get the win. The senior right-hander allowed three hits, one earned run and three walks.

Chris Fogan pitched two innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits with three strikeout and five walks.

Fogan led the Chiefs at the plate, going 2-2 with two RBI.

Beckham Harman and Brody Boy each had an RBI for the Chiefs.

Tuesday’s district semifinal game against the Cougars will be the third time the two Central Buckeye Conference foes meet this season. Kenton Ridge won both of the regular-season games, 11-0 and 5-3.
