Bellefontaine girls swimmers first, boys second at Trotwood meet

The Bellefontaine swim team took part in an eight-team meet on Wednesday at Trotwood-Madison.

The girls team took first place with 418 points and the boys were second with 329 behind Bellbrook.

“We had a great night in the water,” said Sharon Lewis. “Many swimmers hit season best times and quite a few were lifetime best swims as well. Our teams are starting to come together as we try new events and find our strengths and I’m proud of them for accepting each new challenge.”

For the Lady Chiefs, Brooklyne Kuntz won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Kate Myers took first in the 500 freestyle and was also third in the 200 individual medley.

Other top-five finishes were Kaeleigh Flora with third in the 100 free and fifth in the 200 IM; Elaina Ullom third in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 breaststroke; Emma Nieto fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 100 butterfly; and Maddie Ullom fifth in the 100 backstroke and Gillian Steele fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Maddie Ullom was sixth in the 200 free, and Steele took ninth in the 100 breaststroke. Claire McDaniel took sixth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Kaidi Freeman finished seventh in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 100 backstroke.

Nieto, Flora, Myers and Kuntz won the 400 free relay. In the medley relay, Kuntz, Elaina Ullom, Flora and Myers were second, while Maddie Ullom, Steele, Nieto and Elaina Ullom were third in the 200 free relay.

For the boys, Elias Abrego won the 100 freestyle and was second in the 500 free. 

Also placing in the top eight were Ryan Alexander (5th, 100 butterfly; 8th, 50 freestyle); Jaylen Henry (5th, 200 freestyle; 6th, 100 backstroke); Cody Hudson (4th, 100 breaststroke); Oliver Grandstaff (8th, 200 freestyle); Beckham Harman (4th, 100 backstroke); Will Myers (5th, 200 IM); and Grady Feasel (7th, 100 butterfly; 7th, 100 backstroke).

Other results were Myers (11th, 100 breaststroke); Grandstaff (12th, 100 freestyle); Hudson (13th, 50 freestyle); Harman (15th, 50 free); and Blaine Mitchell (9th, 100 breaststroke; 26th, 50 freestyle).

In the relays, Feasel, Hudson, Henry, and Abrego were third in the 400 free. Taking fourth place were Harman, Hudson, Abrego and Alexander in the medley and Henry, Mitchell, Myers, Alexander in the 200 free.

Bellefontaine travels to Bowing Green University today for the Northwest Classic meet.

SWIMMING

Benjamin Logan participated in a tri-meet with Central Crossing and Groveport Madison on Thursday night.

The 200 medley relay team of Annika Chappell, Winnie Bodin, Fiona Sweeney and Lottie Bodin were first. The combo of Kelley Forsythe, Leah Braddock, Kaydence Hamlin and Annika Schmidt were second.

The 200 free relay saw Winnie Bodin, Chappell, Lottie Bodin and Sweeney in first place, with Braddock, Junah Tingley, Montana Coleman, and Schmidt second.

Taking second in the 400 relay were Hamlin, Kylie Curtis, Coleman and Forsythe, with Catherine Branlage, Nora Kopus, Mallie Ricketts and Tingley in third.

Sweeney won the 200 individual medley, with Hamlin second and Forsythe in third.

Coleman was second in the 200 freestyle.

In the 50 freestyle, Sweeney was second and Schmidt third. Lottie Bodin was second and Winnie Bodin third in the 100 butterfly.

Schmidt touched the wall first in the 100 free and Forsythe took third.

Schmidt, Coleman and Tingley were the top three in the 500 freestyle.

Ricketts was second in the 100 backstroke.

Chappell was second and Braddock third in the 100 breaststroke.

For the Raiders boys, Jerrick Stephens, Utah Coleman and Wyatt Gordon were the top three in the 50 freestyle.

Stephens was second and Holden Zehner third in the 200 free.

Carter Daniels took third in the 200 IM and Liam Sweeney was third in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Daniels and Dylan Vance were second and third in the 100 free. Taavo Simovart won the 500 freestyle, with Coleman in second.

The 100 breaststroke saw Gordon, Joe Meeker and Zehner earn the first three spots.

In relays, Landon Braddock, Daniels, Sweeney, and Stephens won the 200 medley relay. Vance, Utah Coleman, Joseph Meeker and Zehner were third.

Sweeney, Stephens, Braddock and Daniels won the 200 free relay.

Finishing second in the 400 free relay were Vance, Meeker, Zehner, and Coleman. Finch Hone, Levi Hanson, Colton Walley and Gordon placed third.

BOWLING

Bellefontaine splits with Alder

The Bellefontaine girls bowling team defeated Jonathan Alder on Friday.

Bellefontaine had a total of 2,727 versus 2,121 for Alder.

Gracie Hood led the Lady Chiefs with a 484 series (247-237), followed by Chloe Heminger at 420 (247-173). Next was Nevaeh LaFollette 392 (187-205), then Haylee Yelton 377 (163-214). Rylee Anderson got 149 in the second game and Avery Mullins had a 146 first game.

The Baker games total was 759, and the regular games 1,968.

In the JV match, Bellefontaine had a 2,143 pin total to Alder’s 1,011. Addison Prosser had 335 (159-176), Isabelle Gunnett 334 (157-177), Kinzie Bernard 315 (157-158) and Rhiana Beair had a 149 game.

Johnathan Alder won the boys’ match 2,810 to 2,550.

For the Chieftains, Rory Pierce led with a 421 series (199-222), followed by Alex Moon at 400 (185-215), Alex Williams 380 (193-187), and David Allen 374 (187-187). Also contributing were Colton Wisner (178 game) and Eli Stone (153 game).

They had 1,906 in regular action and 644 in the Baker games.

In the junior varsity contest, Bellefontaine got the win. Van LaFollette had a 421 series (232-226), followed by Robert Spain at 397 (199-198). Jeffrey Knotts added a 144 game.

WL-S sweeps Southeastern

The West Liberty-Salem bowlers faced Southeastern in Ohio Heritage Conference action Thursday, and won both the boys and girls matches.

The WL-S boys had a total of 2,714 pins to Southeastern’s 2,630.

Devon Jones had the high series of 493 (236-257), with Luke Thomas next at 440 (227-213). They were followed by Zander Gluckle 380 (172-208); Brock Mills 331 (147-184) and Evan Borgerding 299 (173-126).

They had 1,943 pins in regular games and 771 in the Baker games.

JV high game scores were Carson Kerns 180; Jerome Cordrey 173; Carson Instine 153; Austin Markin 146; Xzavior Nicholl 105; and Patrick Brooks 101.

The girls won their match by a score of 2,317 to 1,972.

The high series belonged to Sadie Paul with 489 (266-223), followed by Alyssa Mueller at 451 (242-209). Next was Lilly Gearheart 328 (169-159), Elli Ullery 271 (119-159) and Jenny Reprogle 191 (93-98).

They had 587 in Baker games and 1,730 in the regular games.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Spartans get victory

Calvary Christian defeated Oakstone 64-24 on Thursday night.

Philip Davie led with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Daniel Young had 11 points and four assists. Zeeke Wylie had nine, Christian Rogan eight and Evan Schmidt seven.

Schmidt had seven boards, and Wylie had five. Rogan made four steals.

Rounding out the scoring were John Gaertner five, Ian Schmidt four, and Jace Harpst four.

The Spartans are back on the road again today as they take on Bradford.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lady Chiefs top Kenton Ridge

Bellefontaine defeated Kenton Ridge 54-26 in Central Buckeye Conference action on Wednesday.

Quinlan Zedeker had 17 points and Tiffany Boop 13 to lead the Lady Chieftains scoring. Laila Butler added nine. Gabbe Hoon had seven rebounds and Boop made five assists.

Bellefontaine outscored Kenton Ridge by five in the first and three in the second for a 27-19 lead. They held the Lady Cougars to just seven points in the second half.

Bellefontaine JV won 21-2 in two quarters of play. Emma Whitaker had seven points.

Bellefontaine (3-0 CBC, 5-2 overall) hosts Urbana today. JV begins at noon and will be two quarters, with varsity starting around 12:45 p.m.

Raiders fall to Graham

Benjamin Logan lost to Graham 61-45 Wednesday in CBC play.

Lahna Cook had 16 points and Kylie Harner added 10. Joplin Schneider scored seven and Daylin Varner added six.

Graham took a 20-7 lead in the first, and outscored Ben Logan by six in the second for a 37-18 lead.

Ben Logan rallied in the third scoring 17 points to close the gap. But the hosts held on with a solid fourth quarter.

Ben Logan’s JV won 27-24. Haley Smith had 14, Madison Shields eight, and Lauren Kennedy and Bryleigh Burnside each scored two.

Ben Logan (0-4 CBC, 1-8 overall) is at Shawnee this afternoon.
