BCS Board sets school lunch prices, handles personnel items

The Bellefontaine Board of Education recognized academic excellence during their monthly meeting Monday night, June 9, and made preparations for next school year.

The board announced the recipients of the 18 Bellefontaine Board of Education scholarships, which will be detailed in the Bellefontaine Examiner’s graduation tab in Saturday’s edition of the newspaper, along with other scholarship winners. 

The board approved the cafeteria rates for the 2025-26 school year. The district will offer free breakfast to all students.

Lunch prices are as follows: High School/Middle School lunch – $2.55; Reduced Lunch – 40 cents; Intermediate School/Elementary School —Lunch – $2.30; Reduced Lunch – 40 cents. 

In personnel, the board accepted the following resignations: Jacey Greenwood – 8th Grade Math; Jon Hayduk – 7th Grade Social Studies; Brady Hiatt – 8th Grade Math & High School Girls Golf Assistant Coach; Tori Millice – 1st Grade; Zach Showalter – High School Math; Taylor Wayman – 5th Grade English Language Arts; and Ashley Wood – 2nd Grade. 

The following new hires were approved: Shari Brown – Intervention Specialist; Kaylee Huggins – 1st Grade; Erica Justice – 2nd Grade; Holly Mays – Middle School Math; Eric Miller – Guidance Counselor; Maelinn Myers – High School Math; Lechell Raines – Preschool; Nicole Stafford – Intervention Specialist; Samantha Stephens – Kindergarten; Nicole Terrill – Intervention Specialist; and Erica Warne – 5th Grade.

The board approved substitute teacher pay to be $130 per day in 2025-26. The previous rate was $115 per day.

The contract for bus driver Tonya Reed was renewed.

The board approved six extended days for high school guidance secretary Deborah Sheehan.

Alicia Dinovo was approved to teach summer school.

Kerry Copenhaver was approved as a substitute custodian, and Sean Egler was approved as an athletic worker.

In other action, the board: 

• extended the following supplemental contracts: Jim Ball – High School Girls Tennis Assistant Coach; Morgan Brugler – High School Color Guard Advisor;

  approved the athletic training services agreement between Mary Rutan Hospital and BCS.

Finally, the board went into executive session for the annual evaluations of the superintendent and treasurer.

The board also met in special session at the board office at 3 p.m. June 10 for an executive session to discuss contract renewals.

The next regular board meeting is 2 p.m. July 15 in the Distance Learning Center at BHS.
