Seniors at Riverside Local Schools were nominated by Julie Wick to receive Battle Pups in honor of their classmate Makayla Brandyberry’s three-year fight against osteosarcoma.

Makayla, a Riverside varsity cheerleader, Business Professionals of America member and honors student, passed away Oct. 29, 2023.

The Battle Pup collar reads “armed with strength” and are for anyone and everyone who could use love, hope and encouragement. Battle Pups are donated by the non-profit organization “Way to Battle.”

The students were excited to receive their Battle Pups and are very thankful for the thoughtfulness and generosity of the amazing organization that donated them.

Seniors can keep their pup as a memento or can gift theirs to another going through a difficult time, school representatives said.
