Baseball Roundup: Tigers blank Rams for 9th straight win

West Liberty-Salem’s baseball team won its ninth straight game Tuesday, beating host Greeneview 10-0 in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

The Tigers are now 15-3 overall and 11-2 in the OHC. The Rams fall to 11-6, 10-3. WL-S currently sits one game behind West Jefferson in the OHC North division standings.

The Tigers led 6-0 after four innings. They scored four times in the seventh inning for a 10-run cushion. Jake Evans went the distance on the mound to get the win for WL-S. He struck out 10 and allowed just three hits.

Offensively for WL-S, Eli Allen went 3-5 with a triple, Isaac Sertell had a triple and two RBI, Jeremiah Johnson went 2-5 with a double and an RBI, Isaiah Reames went 2-3 with an RBI and Josh Wilcoxon had a double.

The Tigers travel to Fairbanks on Monday.

Pirates clip Covington

Riverside’s baseball team rallied to beat visiting Covington 9-8 in a Three Rivers Conference game Tuesday.

The Pirates improve to 8-7 overall and 3-7 in the TRC. The Buccs drop to 7-11, 5-8.

The Buccs scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Pirates responded with six runs in the bottom of the first to lead 6-4.

Covington made it 6-5 with a run in the second inning and the Buccs tied the game at
6-6 with a run in the top of the fourth. Riverside scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to lead 8-6.

The Pirates increased their lead to 9-6 with a run in the fifth inning. Covington got to within a run at 9-8 with two runs in the sixth, but the Pirates were able to hang on from there to get the win.

Aiden Manning went 2-4 with a double and two RBI for the Pirates. Gavin Orsborne had a double and an RBI, Gavin Robinson had a double and two RBI and Dominik Stotler had a double and two RBI.

Michael Shockey pitched a complete game to get the win on the mound. Riverside plays at Troy Christian today.
