Arlene E. Smith, 94, of West Liberty, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Ironton, Ohio on February 2, 1929, a daughter of the late Roy Mefford and Muriel Sarah (Wilcoxon) Mefford.

On April 29, 1948, Arlene married Johnnie “John” Junior Smith in Greenup, Kentucky and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2010. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Stacey McCullough, and Lisa Smith; a great grandson, Dylan McCullough; a great-great grandson, Quinton; a sister, Naomi Amlin; and a brother, Carl Mefford.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Roberts; three sons, David “JR” (Diana) Smith, Gary (Jane) Smith, and Duane (Jackie) Smith, all of West Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Williams, Tiann (Rich) Harner, Angela Smith, Jessica (Smith) Stotler, Anthony (Stephanie) Smith, Tyson (Sara) Roberts, Joshua (Lindsey) Smith, Tyler Smith, Austin Smith, and a special grandson, Chris (Diane) Roberts; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchildren; a sister, Willadean O’Brien; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arlene retired from the former D.A.B. in Bellefontaine, following 41 years of service. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Bellefontaine.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, October 23, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road in West Liberty, where Pastor Mike Phillips will officiate a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Arlene’s memory, to Macochee Joint Ambulance District, 113 E. Newell Street, West Liberty, Ohio 43357, or to the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 1669 County Road 11, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
