Alice ‘Allie’ Virginia (Lombard) Black, 92, of Bellefontaine and formerly of Poland, passed away at 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, in Logan Acres Care Center.
She was born in Youngstown, OH on January 11, 1927, the daughter of the late James Phillip and Josephine (Green) Lombard.
Oct. 20, 1951, she married Howard F. Black, Jr. and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2007. She was also preceded in death by their daughter, Christine ‘Chris’ A. Black in 2001, and two sisters, Patricia Vandenbord and Joan Pezzatta.
She is survived by three children, Malinda ‘Mindy’ (Dane) Daring of Bellefontaine, James (Allison) Black of Saltillo, Miss., and Amy Wheeler of Longwood, Fla; six grandchildren, Trey (Kyle) Daring, Bryn (JR) Stewart, both of Bellefontaine, Jimmy (Helen) Black of Montclair, New Jersey, Dr. Ryan (Dr. Mary) Black of Bozeman, Mont., Patrick Wheeler and Marc Wheeler, both of Longwood, Fla.; a step-grandson, Ryan (Meri) Wheeler of Wilmington, Delaware; six great-grandchildren, Sutton, Rowen, and Bexley Daring, Paxton and Crosley Stewart, and Xavier Black; and two step great-grandchildren, Zach and Caleb Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews.
Allie was a 1945 graduate of South High School in Youngstown and attended Kent State University. She was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Poland, Ohio, before moving closer to her family, where she became a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bellefontaine. Family always came first to Allie and she loved hosting large family gatherings and being close to her loved ones. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, where she belonged to several card clubs. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was a past member of the Garden Club in Youngstown.
