The Huntsville American Legion Auxiliary Charles Collins Unit 381 announces 10-year-old Kathleen Overberger from Bay Village has been selected as Miss Poppy for 2023.
She is a daughter of Diana and Erik Overberger and a granddaughter of Mike and Susie Wallace of Huntsville.
In addition, Little Poppy Prince and Princess are Charlie and Georgia Booher, children of Kyle and Ally Booher of Bellefontaine.
The Huntsville American Legion Auxiliary Charles Collins Unit 381 will be in the area with veteran-made poppies for donation on Saturday, May 20, for Armed Forces Day.
“Honor the fallen and support the living” is the motto used in poppy distribution. This little flower came to symbolize the bloodshed during World War I and has since become the official flower of the American Legion family to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during World War I.
The Huntsville American Legion Auxiliary Charles Collins Unit 381 asks community members if they are willing to wear a poppy for veterans as a visual indication of your support for service members who have given their lives for our country and to support programming for veterans and their families.
Funds from previous year poppy distribution were used to sponsor a free veteran fishing day at Indian Lake for patients of the Dayton VA Hospital.
The ALA Huntsville Unit 381 also has served a veterans meal at the Logan County Fair, helps with Veterans Day programming and offers flag etiquette class for grades K-4 at Indian Lake Schools. They also send over 300 Veterans Day cards each year.
